Dobell Drawing Prize #21

March 28, 2019

Becc Ország is a finalist in the Dobell Drawing Prize with her work ‘Fantasy of virtue / All things and nothing’.

Australia’s most prestigious drawing prize, The Dobell Drawing Prize is back in a newly revived state presented by the National Art School (NAS), tackling drawing as a progressive 21st century medium and looking at all its permutations within art making today.  Inaugurated in 1993 the prize was founded by The Sir William Dobell Art Foundation and held in conjunction with the Archibald Prize, Sulman Prize and Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW.

Artist Ben Quilty has been chosen as the judge of the 2019 Dobell Drawing Prize, selecting 57 finalist from a record breaking 788 entries. In conjunction with the prize, NAS is also hosting a broader drawing festival which includes a range of additional drawing exhibitions and a symposium. The Dobell Drawing Prize and the Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial at the Art Gallery of New South Wales will run in alternate years.

The Dobell Drawing Prize #21 exhibition includes works by all 57 finalists and is on at the National Art School (NAS) Gallery from 28 March to 25 May 2019.
